Celebrating Sigd at ADI Jerusalem

The unique aroma of Ethiopian cooking filled the entrance level of ADI Jerusalem as Special Education school students and residents learned about the Beta Israel (Ethiopian Jewish) holiday of Sidg.

While Ethiopian music played in the background and a special video projected images of Sigd celebrations, staff helped students bake popular Ethiopian foods such as Injera, sourdough flatbread, and Dabo, a thick, spiced wheat bread served on holidays and special occasions.

ADI staff of Ethiopian origin surprised everyone by presenting National Service volunteer with whom they work with traditional Ethiopian garments in honor of the holiday.

The smell, sounds and sight of Sigd created a memorable sensory experience, and everyone is already looking forward to next year’s celebration.
