🗣VOLUNTEER VOICES: Roni Mor, National Service V 🗣VOLUNTEER VOICES: Roni Mor, National Service Volunteer 💚

"My name is Roni Mor, and I live in Kiryat Arba. For as long as I can remember, anyone who had ever done their National Service at ADI told me that it became their second home. I was so curious why everyone falls in love with this place.

I am now in my second year of National Service at ADI, and all of my questions have been answered. I, too, am so grateful that ADI is a central part of my life.

The last several months have allowed me to get to know the ADI residents in a different light, more intimately than ever before. It has been an intense period, but the lockdowns and restrictions have bonded us, establishing a significant and special connection between us. Going through this not-so-simple time together with the ADI residents has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life.

I think what really sets ADI apart from all other National Service programs is that we always have to keep to the schedule no matter what. We must always be with the residents and be there for them.

There have been so many times that we actually slept at the center with the residents, something that had never happened before, and I must say that I really enjoyed it. It’s a profound and heartwarming experience to tuck the residents in at night and wake them up in the morning, and I will cherish these memories forever.

I have never felt so connected to something before. At ADI, I feel like I am part of something bigger than myself, part of family linked by a higher purpose. I wish that everyone could get to know this amazing place, a place that I am proud to call my home." 🏠💚

❤🙏 Relaxed, Uplifted & Loved: Yoga with Emma ❤🙏 Relaxed, Uplifted & Loved: Yoga with Emma 🧘‍♀🧘🧘‍♂

While vacationing in South America, 24 year-old Emma Brusse met her future life partner, an Israeli named Yair. After six long months apart, Emma decided to leave her native Canada and join Yair in Israel. The young couple now lives in Kfar HaRif, a Moshav in southern Israel, and their love continues to flourish.

For the last three months, Emma has filled her days – and her heart – by volunteering at ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran's special education school. Though Emma initially had some difficulty acclimating to the language and culture, her love for the ADI special education students carried her through, and she has developed deep and meaningful relations with each and every child. A yoga instructor by profession, Emma has been giving special yoga lessons to the students in her class. She dims the lights, puts on relaxing music, and adds some sensory and massage devices. The children enjoy these sessions tremendously and respond with love and gratitude.

We are so grateful to Emma for her exceptional warmth, generosity and dedication. Thank you, Emma, for spending your first few months in Israel with us and for always going the extra mile for our special education students – you will forever be a cherished member of the ADI family. We wish you much success and continued happiness – you certainly deserve it! 💚

🎸🎶 PLAYING FROM THE HEART ❤ Singer-songwri 🎸🎶 PLAYING FROM THE HEART ❤
Singer-songwriter Peter Himmelman has been enlightening and empowering people of all backgrounds and abilities through music for decades. In addition to releasing more than 30 rock, folk and blues albums and composing brilliant scores for hit TV shows like ER, Judging Amy, Bones, and Miami Vice, Peter shares his musical talents with large corporations, nonprofit organizations and individuals to help them unlock their creative potentials.

After an ADI Facebook post caught his eye in December, Peter, a longtime supporter of ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran, offered to run a musical workshop for the residents of the rehabilitative village. Having worked with individuals with disabilities previously, Peter understood that music is often able to create a connection where all other methods failed, circumventing the brain and speaking straight to the heart. Last week, when Peter ran a virtual workshop for six young women at ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran (ranging in age from 16 to 30), it was clear that he was speaking straight to their hearts.

From his home studio in New York, Peter serenaded the residents, improvising original songs about each one as he learned their names. The residents swayed to the serene sounds of Peter’s sultry voice, bounced to the buoyant tunes, and cheered with excitement when they heard their names set to music. For 45 minutes, there was no language barrier or disabilities – just people cheerfully connecting through music. When the workshop came to an end, the residents and their caretakers, still smiling from ear to ear, thanked Peter for an experience they will never forget. “You’re my friend,” said one of the residents with great sincerity, “I love you.”

We are so grateful to Peter for taking the time to share his wonderful gift with our ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran residents and using it to help them draw out their latent potentials. We are inspired by your talent, and moved by your warmth and generosity. Thank you, Peter! 🙏💚
