Honorary President of ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran [2008-2013]
Soon after moving to Israel, Rhoda accepted an invitation to visit ADI, an encounter that impacted her profoundly. In her own words:
“The day I spent with the children who are nurtured, cared for, and loved at ADI was one of the most moving experiences in my life.”
That initial visit marked a seminal moment and turning point in the development and future of the organization, inspiring Rhoda to take on the role of honorary president of ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran, ADI’s residential and rehabilitative village in Israel’s south.
Under Rhoda’s guidance, ADI rose to new levels of international recognition, setting a new benchmark in the standards of care for the disability community worldwide. Rhoda took the initiative in organizing and bringing groups to ADI, and her efforts saw a significant increase in the levels of awareness and funding raised to support a future of hope for hundreds of children and their families.
Through the years, Rhoda remained tireless in her quest to promote the welfare of ADI’s children, driven by her tremendous sense of empathy and an understanding of their real needs. With her inimitable mixture of charm, gentle persuasion, caring and passion for the cause, Rhoda reached out to people from around the world – and it was a testament to her character and personality that none of those approached could refuse.
Even as we so keenly feel her loss, it is difficult to speak about Rhoda in the past tense because her spirit lives on with us. Rhoda served as a model of compassion, true kindness and unconditional love. She carried herself with modesty and grace, and her generosity towards those in greatest need reflected her values and priorities. She had an innate awareness of those around her and an ability to perceive their needs and provide for them — without even being asked. We are forever grateful that Rhoda opened her heart to the ADI family, and we are committed to continuing her incredible legacy of care.
We extend our deepest condolences to her loving husband, Stanley, and the entire family.
May her memory serve as a blessing for all who knew and loved her – יהי זכרה ברוך
“We all hope that our lives and the lives of our loved ones with be imbued with humanity. My role as ADI Negev President is to acquaint people with ADI, show them the remarkable social values that underlie its endeavors, and inspire them as I was inspired. As the circle of ADI supporters and friends expands, together we can bring about the realization of our expression of our deepest humanity.”Rhoda Fischer
